El Crimen (2014): The Beginning of a Cinematic Journey
This project represents the first step in my exploration of filmmaking and editing—a starting point where creativity overcame technical limitations. El Crimen was originally a trailer for a short film that, unfortunately, was lost over time. However, this trailer remains as evidence of my first deep dive into audiovisual production, an invaluable record of my evolution as a filmmaker.
Back then, my equipment was basic: a camera that only took photos and, occasionally, my sister’s camera for recording. I had no access to professional tools or even a proper editing space. Everything changed when I got my first iPhone, an iPhone 5S, which opened the door to new possibilities. With iMovie downloaded, I began experimenting with what I had, learning through trial and error about editing, effects, and visual storytelling.
Although El Crimen doesn’t follow a structured narrative, it encapsulates the essence of creative discovery. It was my first real experience in filming and editing—a hands-on exercise where I explored framing, pacing, and effects within the limitations of that time. Despite its imperfections, this trailer remains a crucial piece of my development, a time capsule reflecting the beginning of my passion for audiovisual production.
Looking back, El Crimen is not just a relic of my learning process but a reminder that every great journey begins with a small step. This project is proof that creativity and the desire to tell stories will always find a way to be expressed, no matter the resources available..
